Like every year, there is a music festival in Warsaw. 18 bands would sing throughout the 2 days of the festival. 10 bands would come outside of Poland. The main stars of the festival would be Skrillex, Lana Del Rey, Daughters, Die Antowoord, mø, Schoolboy Q, Skunk Anasie and Tom Odell. The festival was from 03.06.16 to 04.06.16, lasting 2 days. Most of the singers of the show would arrive a day before their concert. I arrived a day before in the airport expecting some singers to show up. Looking at the stars snaps, instaragram posts, Facebook posts or last concert location could give a hint on what flight the singers could be in.
Around 4 the day before the concert Die Antwoord landed in Warsaw from Paris. I was too late to be able to meet him. I was looking forward to meet Lana Del Rey, as her concert was the next day. Around 60 Lana Del Rey fan’s sat in the airport from the morning only to see their idol. At around 6 there was a flight from London. Skunk Anansie were in that flight. I was able to take picture with: Martin "Ace" Kent
Richard "Cass” Lewis, and Mark Richardson, except the main singer Skin. She walked into the bus, and I didn’t notice her. None of the Lana del Rey fans noticed Skunk Anansie, Lana Del Rey didn’t go through the airports terminal. She went through a VIP passage, which people couldn’t go into and meet her. Fans in the airport came home disappointed without seeing Lana.
The day of the first concert I went to the airport early in the morning hoping to meet the rest of the bands performing that day and the day after. There were personnels having ‘Orange’ tags around themselves holding a paper with the bands agents name. They would escort the bands to the bus to their hotel. When they saw me holding pictures of the bands, they asked me not to video the band for some reason. The first band which came in the morning was Blossoms. I had 3 pictures of the band with everyone in it. The band lined up and slowly signed everything I had it. They were all very nice. I even had a group picture with everyone.
At around 1 I noticed a small Van arriving the airport. It was the same van all the bands used to transport. A personnel stood in the arrivals. I was expecting it to be ‘Daughters’ as there was a flight from Barcelona, and they had a concert there a day before. The band stopped for their fans, and signed everything I had. Elena Tonra, the main vocalist, Igor Haefeli, and Remi Aguilella. Elena even gave a dedication on one of the photos.
At around 4 there was a flight from Amsterdam. I was expecting Schoolboy Q to be in that flight as thats what his snapchat showed. Personnels from Orange did stand in the airport, so I knew one of the bands would come. Schoolboy Q arrived in the airport with a security guard. He signed only 2 per person, no more. When asked for pictures, he said he didn’t want any pictures. He also didn’t give me a dedication when I asked for one. Couple minutes after, a member from the ‘Editors’ band arrived. Only Justin Lockey arrived in that flight. He gave a rushed signature on my pictures, and took pictures with everyone which wanted. When asked where the rest of the band was, he said that they flew on different flight.
On the first day of the festival, I was hoping to see Lana Del Rey after her concert in her hotel. I arrived an hour after her concert ended in the hotel. I meet SchoolBoy Q at the same hotel. This time he took his time to take pictures with people and signed everything I had. 2 hour after Lana Del Rey finished her concert, there were hundreds of Lana fans under the hotel. A van arrived in the hotel carrying Lana in it, but it didn’t stop in the main entrance, it went down to a parking where no fans had access to it. Hundreds of fans outside the hotel cried as they couldn’t meet Lana.
The day of the second concert, I arrived in the airport at 9 hoping to see Die Antwoord. Unfortunately they were nowhere to be seen, they flew much earlier. At around 5, Skrillex arrived. He was super chill. He stopped and signed everything for all his fans. He took time to even take pictures with everyone. Mø also arrived an hour before Skrillex. As she arrived 2 hours before her concert, she was in a big rush. She apologized for not taking pictures and signing autographs, though she did sign for some lucky people. The day after the concert, I decided to go to the airport early to catch Mø and Tom Odell. The second I came inside the terminal, Mø was standing infront of the check in. She signed a couple autographs for me, and said she couldn’t sign all as she had to go. One of her crew also asked me not to take pictures or videos as they just came back from a party. After he said that, I respectfully turned off my camera and didn’t ask Mø for any pictures. She even gave a dedication to me and my friends as I asked for one.
In total, during those 4 days, I was able to collect 42 signatures in a period of 18 hours. 16 hours alone waiting in the airport.
